There are few things in the world more recognizable than the Pyramids of Egypt. Even those as far away as Sterling Edmonton know that this is one of the ancient wonders of the world and there are millions who choose to visit the Giza Necropolis, which is the most well known set of Pyramids, each year. They are known as the Great Pyramids and are just outside of Cairo. But, what you might not know is that there are more than one hundred pyramids throughout the country of Egypt and most of them were built by the Pharaohs as tombs.

The oldest Pyramid that is still in existence was found just northwest of the city of Memphis in Saqqara and it is believed that it was constructed in around 2620 BC. It took more than one thousand people to build each of the pyramids and the largest of them took more than 100,000 workers. While you might think that you're working hard now in Revit training or at a factory, you should remember that many of these people were simple slaves working for the Pharaoh of the time.

Many of the pyramids were or are still buried under the sand and have been hidden for hundreds of years. Like those who need to get winter tires Toronto or Russia based, those in Egypt deal with sandstorms that have cloaked several pyramids over the years. The most recent pyramid that was discovered was in 2008 and was that of Queen Sesheshet of the sixth dynasty. Most of the pyramids are situated on the west bank of the Nile and several of them are grouped together.

If you have an image of what the Pyramids look like than you're probably thinking of the ones at Giza. But if you're planning a trip to see these amazing feats of architecture and the sort of things that influenced everything from the Shangri-La Toronto to a hotel in Las Vegas than there are all kinds of structures throughout the country that would have you in awe. These tombs would be viewed as incredible if they were created today with all of the help of modern technology. But, they were actually built thousands of years ago, long before people even knew about things like cranes and condos downtown Toronto. This is definitely something you should add to the list of things to see before you die.
